Update of whetstone tombstone database

Issue: Whetstone tombstones are pre-Civil War monuments that originated in Orange County, Indiana. Their distribution can be used to document trade routes in the early part of Indiana's history.
Objective: The purpose of this project is to continue to maintain and update the whetstone tombstone database.
Approach: Cemeteries that contain whetstone monuments are located and checked; updates to the database are added.
Products: The whetstone tombstone database that will be archived at the Indiana Geological Survey and the Indiana Historical Society.
Benefits: This research is leading to a better understanding of the pre-Civil War funeral industry, trade routes, and commerce in Indiana.
