Issue: Water resources, development along transportation corridors, and mineral resource assessment are planning issues in Bartholomew County that are closely linked to scientific interpretation of the Quaternary deposits and Paleozoic bedrock.
Objective: The objective of this task is to provide detailed geological information in an area that continues to experience pressure on natural resources by a large population. The final product will provide traditional surficial and bedrock geological information, as well as subsurface information, derivative maps, and summaries that will help users understand and make use of the wealth of geologic information that is becoming available for Bartholomew County.
Approach: Construct 1:48,000-scale maps of bedrock geology, bedrock topography, thickness of unconsolidated deposits, and thickness of bedrock units for Bartholomew County. Implement an Internet map service site to link users to these map products and other resources.
Products: The proposed IGS website will include an Internet map service, illustrations of geologic maps and terrain images, and educational summaries and discussions. The website will also include additional information to complement the Internet map service. The IGS will maintain the website for five (5) years. At the end of the fifth year, the IGS will evaluate the usefulness of the site and determine whether to support it through the IGS’s IGSMap website.
Benefits: This project will result in the completion of geologic mapping in Bartholomew County and make final map products available to a variety of users via the internet.
