Issue: |
Over the years we have accumulated abundance of photomicrographs of organic matter in coal and various shales from the Illinois Basin. These images are not publicly available, they are however of a great demand by researchers and the industry. |
Objective: |
To design and prepare interactive atlas of organic matter. We plan to start with the New Albany Shale, followed by the coals and other formations in the Illinois Basin. |
Approach: |
1) We will start with reviewing all available photomicrographs, their stratigraphic context and location.
2) Template for the online atlas will be selected.
3) The functionality of the atlas will be tested by uploading images for one well.
4) Available photomicrographs will be uploaded.
5) Additional locations will be selected, samples prepared, and photographed. During this part of the project we plan to cooperate with ISGS and KGS, and collect new samples in the field. |
