Director: Nancy Hasenmueller
Other Researchers: Michael Daniels, Kathryn Shaffer, Henry Loope
Funding: U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) - Great Lakes Geologic Mapping Coalition
Issue: This task focuses on maintaining and updating the Great Lakes Geologic Mapping Coalition (GLGMC) website that is currently being served by the IGS (http://igs.indiana.edu/GreatLakesGeology/). Keeping the website current is important because GLGMC project areas, products, and personnel change.
Objective: The website provides information on the goals, products, and personnel of the eight Great Lakes state geological surveys (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin), the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Ontario Ministry of Northern Development and Mines. The GLGMC website is used by a number of individuals, including the general public, planners, consultants, and state and federal agencies.
Approach: On the home page upcoming and past events are kept current; links to the Geological Society of America Annual and North-Central Section meetings are provided with links to GSA abstracts of members and affiliates of the GLGMC. Publications and personnel of each geological survey are updated at least once a year. The 10-year plan for the Coalition prioritized mapping areas was added to the website in 2010 and updated in 2015.
Products: The website is available at http://igs.indiana.edu/GreatLakesGeology/.
Benefits: The site provides web-based access to current and past GLGMC project areas, products, and personnel to a broad spectrum of users from academia, industry, government, and the general public.
