||Spatial data are important in planning for infrastructure improvements, economic development, and protection of the environment. Improving the accessibility of essential spatial data to industry, government agencies, and the public will make the planning process more efficient.
||Create a central repository of spatial data for Indiana and to make the data freely available to the public in a format that is readily accessible.
||A geographic information system (GIS) atlas of Indiana is being compiled from a variety of sources. The GIS includes shapefiles, grids, georeferenced images, and a geodatabase. Metadata are generated for all layers in a format prescribed by the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC). We have acquired more than 270 GIS layers related to planimetry, infrastructure, history, environment, biology, geology, resources, and hazards, and have prepared them for distribution to the public through an online Web map application and REST Servers.
||An online Web map applicatin titled IndianaMap (http://maps.indiana.edu) has been created that includes an interactive map, as well as GIS layers and FGDC-compliant metadata that can be downloaded at no cost.
||The ability to plan for infrastructure improvements, economic development, and protection of the environment has been made more efficient by the creation of a central repository of spatial data and a Web interface that is accessible to industry, government agencies, and the public.
