||The U.S. Geological Survey in conjunction with the Association of American State Geologists launched the National Geologic Map Database (NGMDB), a national archive of spatially referenced geoscience data to help the Nation’s geological surveys, including the Indiana Geological Survey, efficiently provide to the public standardized digital geoscience information.
||The objective of this IGS project is to ensure that geologic maps published by the IGS and other Indiana geologic maps are included in the NGMDB, thus addressing the IGS's mission to disseminate information.
||Potential map references for the NGMDB Map Catalog are identified using standard bibliographic search techniques. Copies of maps selected for inclusion in the NGMDB are examined so geospatial control and map theme(s) data can be taken directly from the original map and recorded in a project database. Completed map references are sent to the USGS where they are added to the NGMDB Map Catalog.
||To date the IGS has contributed 797 map references to the NGMDB Map Catalog.
||NGMDB Map Catalog users can now use NGMDB Map Catalog search tools (latitude-longitude coordinates, map scale, map theme, etc.) to locate maps that are entirely or partly within Indiana.
