ANNOTATION: The Geographic Information System (GIS) Atlas for Southwestern Indiana consist of 173 layers of geospatial information. The GIS includes mineral and water resources; geologic hazards; environmental resources; and political, cultural, recreational, and historic feature data for the 25 counties along and west of Indiana State Road 37 and south of Interstate 70, and Brown County. The GIS, composed of shapefiles, grids, georeferenced images, and metadata, was derived from a variety of sources, including federal and state agencies, as well as files and records at both Indiana Geological Survey and Bernardin, Lochmueller & Associates (BLA) of Evansville. All layers are in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Zone 16, North American Datum (NAD) 83. Most of the layers have been clipped to a common boundary, which was compiled at a scale of 1:24,000. Metadata were generated for all layers following standards established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC). All GIS layers and associated metadata are also being made available through the IGS Website (www.igs.indiana.edu) in various formats.

Notes: Publications in the Indiana Geological Survey Open-File series have been inconsistently named using a variety of series titles including "Open-File Report," "Open-File Map," and "Open-File Study." Prior to 1994, a publication in this series was generally referred to as an "Open-File Report" (but not always). To help reduce confusion created by these inconsistencies, the IGS now refers to every publication in the Open-File series as an "Open-File Study." To be entirely correct in writing a bibliographic reference for a publication, one should use the series name and number that appears on the publication itself.

Includes 8 CD-ROMs and a 35-page booklet describing the various data sets. For more information, including descriptions of the layers, click the link below:
