New Earthquake Research Published

Concern over increased seismicity—a greater number of earthquakes—in the Midcontinent has been in the news lately. Wastewater injection associated with oil production has been correlated with earthquakes. An IGS study looks at the past 10 years of Indiana earthquakes and the practice of wastewater injection within the state.

New Industrial Minerals Directory — Online Map and Free Download

The new Industrial Minerals Producers of Indiana, IGS Directory 11-2016, is now available in Story Map form online at the IGS website. It still lists all the known producers of industrial minerals in the state of Indiana, as well as including commodities: cement, clay and shale, crushed stone, dimension limestone, dimension sandstone, gypsum, lime, and many others. A PDF version is also available as a free download from the IGS Bookstore.

Major Sources of Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Coal in Indiana

This new IGSMap contains information about CO2 emissions from coal in Indiana. The collection of maps shows major point sources of CO2 emissions, including commercial and municipal electric power plants and industrial and institutional coal-fired boilers, and the Indiana coal mines that supply them. In addition, Indiana coal-related CO2 emissions from 2010 are compared to CO2 emissions from other states during the same time period.
